Weekend the world came to town

By Mike Pyle

People were able to take a world tour in a town centre at the weekend.

Bracknell came alive with stalls from all over the world selling everything from pastries and cheese directly from France, sausages from Poland and handbags from Milan and Paris.

The international feel came courtesy of the Global Village, organised by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership.

Sounds of African drumming, Indian music and much more could be heard all over Charles Square, Crossway and Broadway between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.

Visitor to Bracknell from Spain, Colin Mauger, said: “It’s been a wonderful day, the weather’s good, there’s good entertainment and good food!”

Jeff Lasnon, manager of JFL Market, was in Bracknell to sell French food imported freshly from Brittany.

He said: “I’ve been in Bracknell for three days and I like it.

“For three or four years running I’ve been doing the market – I keep coming back so there must be something about it!”
