Illegal fishers fined in court

May 06, 2008

Illegal anglers from around Warfield and Sandhurst have been fined after being caught fishing without licences.

The men were both fined at East Berkshire Magistrates Court on Friday, April 18.

Richard Harrison, 43, of Horatio Avenue in Warfield, was fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £75 after he was caught fishing at the Royal Berkshire Fishery in North Street, Winkfield in August last year.

Stuart Ravey, 28, of Rockwood Avenue in Sandhurst, was fined £80 and ordered to pay £75 costs after he was caught at Holme Grange Reservoir in Crowthorne in October.

Matt Carter, a fisheries specialist for the Environment Agency, said: “Illegal anglers should realise that our officers are on the riverbank and anyone flouting the law will be caught and punished.”
