Bees trophies for sale on eBay
By Lorna Catling18/ 4/2008
Former Bees sponsor David Taylor has been branded “shameless” for selling the team’s trophies.
Current boss Katie Eleftheriou, who bailed out the team after Mr Taylor pulled financial backing last year, was alerted to the sale of five Bees trophies on eBay.
She said he kept the trophies at his house after the former estate agent left the team and they have been trying to get them back to display them with all the other trophies at the John Nike ice rink in Binfield.
Katie said: “I just think it is absolutely disgusting. They belong to the team, they won them and they should have them.
“Every other trophy they won is in the display cabinet at the rink. He is totally shameless.”
The five trophies, all won between 2005 and 2007, are being sold by a seller called “icehockeytrader”.
All the trophies are pictured on the site and have a caption saying: “This item was purchased directly from the previous Team owners who have provided the required letter of Authenticity to prove the trophies provenance.”
The seller has 22 other ice hockey items on sale such as shirt numbers and body armour.
Katie said: “I suppose we could try to buy them back but there is no way I want to give that man any more money and they shouldn’t have to be bought back when the team won them.”
“I am going to go to the league [English Premiere Ice Hockey League] to see if they can help us get them back but I don’t know if there is anything they can do.”
The online bid for the trophies will end at about 8.30pm on Monday evening.
Getbracknell has tried to contact Mr Taylor, but he is yet to return our calls.
