Landlord: My secret agent past

The new landlord of a Warfield pub fled war-torn Yugoslavia after he refused to back dictator Slobodan Milosovic, Getbracknell can reveal.
Jason Fox took over the Three Legged Cross pub in search of a quiet life.
The 59-year-old has even written two books based on his experiences as a Yugoslav secret agent – for which he was hand-picked in 1968.
He said: “Officially, we were all undercover as gamblers, womanisers and criminals but in reality we were in the army, infiltrating secret organisations.
“My family was disgusted with my way of life, gambling and trading on the black market, but really I was fighting for my beliefs and my country.”
Following the civil war in the early 90s, Jason – who uses his pen name for fear of reprisals – was told he would be killed if he did not swear his allegiance to Serbian president Milosovic.
Jason refused to do this and left the country for London via Hungary.
Jason’s most recent book, The Cloak and Dagger Game, about his experiences in the Balkanshas been nominated for a Northern Irish book prize.
Jason, who arrived in the Forest Road pub last Wednesday, said: “I want to make this a proper community pub, where people know they can come down and relax and there will be no trouble, drugs or underage drinking.
"It is good for families to come and enjoy the food.
“I have already had compliments on my Sunday roasts, people have asked me how I cook my meat, but I won’t tell them, it’s a secret!
“My dad used to be a butcher and he taught me it’s all about the preparation.”
