Learning a lesson in cooking healthy food

March 25, 2008

Children learned about – and ate – delicious, healthy food in a state of the art “food pod” last week.

The food education project from Waitrose arrived  in Sandhurst last week. More than 180 children from schools in Bracknell Forest climbed aboard to take part in tutored workshops to learn about what they eat.

The food pod is an expandable, portable truck that opens out into a fully functioning classroom equipped for preparation and cooking.

Tutor Susan Sage helped children prepare delicious dishes including mackerel paté and fruit crumble.

Emma Whitehouse, Year 5 teacher at New Scotland Hill, said: “The children not only enjoyed the experience, but learned a lot about how to run a supermarket. Many thanks to Waitrose.”
