‘Flats a risk to staff and our patients’

A block of flats planned for green space opposite a doctors’ surgery will turn a the area into a concrete jungle, say neighbours.

Permission to build the two-storey block containing eight flats near Birch Hill medical centre has been applied for by Kingfisher Residential.

But Dr George Kassianos has complained to Bracknell Forest Borough Council saying it would put “our 7,000 patients, our 26 staff and ourselves at risk of car accidents”.

People living nearby have also objected to the planning application.

One letter to Bracknell Forest planners from Julie Woods said: “Such a tall building would be overpowering compared to the nearby landscape.

“This is a lovely area of green amongst the various buildings of Birch Hill.

“Please could you apply some common sense and long-term thinking in all of this – people don’t want to live in a concrete jungle!”

Despite the complaints and a recommendation from Bracknell Town Council to refuse the application, borough planning officers have recommended the application should be approved, subject to conditions.

The council will make a decision at a public meeting in Easthampstead House tomorrow at 7.30pm.
