Crime figures dramatically up on last year – new stats reveal

By Lorna Catling
May 02, 2007

Residents have been victim to a shocking rise in  robberies over the last year.

British Crime Statistics from April 1, 2006, until March 31, 2007, showed that robberies in the area have gone up by 44.7 per cent.

The number of robbery offences rose from 85 to 123, which equates to slightly more than 10 robberies every month last year.

Overall the area saw a three per cent increase in crime of any kind, but drug-related offences and vehicle theft dropped.

Bracknell Police Force released the figures ahead of schedule on Monday and vowed to tackle the problem.

Acting chief inspector and LPA commander Simon Bowden said: “Although the percentage rate seems high, the actual numbers are relatively low and a lot of the offences relate to the theft of hi-tech equipment like phones and iPods."
