Electronic bugs could count waste in the future

By Sarah Bishton
August 30, 2006

Electronic bugs could be installed in thousands of bins in Bracknell under a new drive to detect the amount of household waste homeowners leave out for landfill.

Computer chips would be placed under the front lip of green wheelie bins and homeowners could be charged as much as 18p per kilo to dispose of any waste that was not put out for recycling.

This could mean residents would have to fork out as much as £9 if their household waste bin were full up.
