New outdoor classroom gives Hatch Ride pupils new learning opportunities
By Becky BarnesFebruary 25, 2013
Den-building, outdoor cooking and pond-dipping will be enjoyed by schoolchildren thanks to an innovative outdoor classroom.
Wokingham borough mayor Bob Wyatt cut the ribbon to officially open the new structure at Hatch Ride Primary School, Hatch Ride, on Friday, February 8.
Headteacher Tracy Frackelton said: “It was lovely. Parents came to an assembly where pupils told them what they hoped to get out of the classroom.
“Hatch Ride has an amazing outdoor environment which offers rich learning experiences not found indoors. An outdoor classroom is ideal for providing sensory experiences leading to greater levels of creativity and understanding.
“Now completed, the outdoor classroom will be full of wonderful things for children to experiment with, discover, and explore.”
The aim of the class is for children to learn about nature and society while learning new skills and getting their hands a bit dirty.
The wooden classroom was paid for by the PTA and is fully wired with electricity, although it is not a closed structure.
