Oaklands Infant School pupils take a trip back to Victorian times

By Becky Barnes
February 05, 2013

Children swapped smartphones for slate boards when they stepped back in time for a Victorian morning.

Year Two pupils at Oaklands Infant School took part in drill (PE), deportment [balancing a beanbag on their heads], reading and sketching in charcoal followed by a hand inspection.

Headteacher Julie Sheppard said: “They enjoyed the novelty of writing on slate board but were scared of their teacher who didn’t smile.

“It taught them lessons today are much more interesting and they said they like moving around because it got very boring sitting still.”

The six and seven-year-olds at the Butler Road school in Crowthorne are studying the Victorians and dressed up for the morning of activities.
