Meadows Nursery in Woodley given 'outstanding' Oftsted rating

A nursery has been rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted for the fourth inspection in a row.
Meadows Nursery, based at The Ambleside Centre, was praised by an inspector as ‘a very special place to learn’ for three to five-year-olds, following a two-day visit last month.
The centre, in Ambleside Close, Woodley, was previously rated ‘outstanding’ following inspections in 2010, 2007 and 2001.
A report published on Monday, January 14, found that by the time children leave the centre they have made ‘good and, in some cases, exceptional progress’.
The inspector noted because of this children are ‘very well prepared for school’ and ‘are confident, happy and independent learners’.
The report noted: “All adults work exceptionally well to ensure each child makes at least good progress with his or her learning.”
The inspector also referred to the support children with special educational needs or disabilities receive stating they ‘are supported extremely well by skilled staff’.
Looking at the nursery’s leadership, the report said: “The senior leadership team are clearly focused and ambitious to continually improve the nursery for the benefit of children and their parents.
“They have clearly designed plans to do this which are constantly reviewed and amended as they check how well they are progressing with them.
“Governors, parents and the children are involved in making suggestions for changes and this ensures the whole community works together for improvement.”
The children were praised for being ‘extremely well behaved’ and that ‘it is extremely unusual to see children playing on their own; they choose to join with others, both children and adults’.
The Oftsed inspector recommended the nursery further develops partnership arrangements to share its outstanding practice with a wider community of pre-school providers.
Phil Armstrong, centre head, said: “I am delighted with the outcome of the inspection and appreciated the recognition the inspector gave to the commitment of the whole team and their work in ensuring that the centre is not only outstanding now, but continues to develop for the future.”
Richard Stanley, assistant director for learning and achievement at Wokingham Borough Council, added: “This is an excellent outcome and demonstrates the children attending the nursery at The Ambleside Centre continue to receive the highest quality learning experiences.
“The staff are to be congratulated.”
