Mini-chefs make their own sweet treats

By Jon Nurse
November 27, 2012

Little chefs from Hawthorns Primary School used Fairtrade and homegrown ingredients to cook sweet treats.

Pupils from the school in Northway enjoyed two weeks of cooking in October with Abby Paine and a band of parent helpers.

The children used ingredients from their own organic garden.

Headteacher Pat Kerton said: “As a school we feel it is important for our pupils to know where their food comes from and how it is produced.”

Year One made chocolate cake using the beetroot grown earlier in the term, while pumpkins were used by Year Six to make muffins.

The Year Two children practised writing instructions as they all made recipe cards for the cakes they baked.
