Solar panels for Forest School
March 16, 2012
A Winnersh school can now harness the power of the sun after winning approval to place solar panels on its roof.
The Forest School in Robin Hood Lane had asked for permission to install the panels on the main school roof with safety railings around the perimeter.
Wokingham Borough Council has plans to invest in solar panels for school buildings and its civic offices in Shute End over the next three years.
It hopes to save £72,000 in the next financial year on the green initiatives and then £74,000 each year after that.
The work to install solar panels at schools and on Shute End is expected to cost more than £1 million in 2012/13.
Wokingham Borough Council’s planning team approved the proposal last month.
The council announced its budget for 2012/13 last month, with plans to invest £26 million in school buildings over three years.
This includes making improvements to Bulmershe School in Woodley, as well as the solar panel initiative.
