Whitegrove Primary eco-warriors to the rescueBy Mike Pyle

Junior eco-warriors have been finding out about how they can save energy at their school with the help of an innovative Bracknell company.
Pupils at Whitegrove Primary School in Warfield teamed up with Winkfield firm Alert Innovation Ltd to take part in an energy saving project.
One of Alert Innovation’s newest ideas is called Simplicity Energy Management and lets organisations monitor how much electricity they are using at any one time through live information displayed as a dial on a computer.
Tony Lamb, of Alert Innovation, said: “We thought we could use the system to help teach children about energy conservation.
“We said to Whitegrove that we could put the equipment in for free, which would help us develop it, and that we’d also like to help the children.”
The school assigned a team of eco-warriors to work with Tony and they were able to find out exactly how turning off electrical equipment helps the school save energy.
Tony added: “From a child’s point of view, and from an adult’s, seeing energy consumption displayed as a dial helps it make sense.
“The children were able to have an energy saving week where they went around turning lights off during break times and things like that.
“They were able to compare a normal week with how much they saved during that week.”
