Hazebrouck Nursery celebrates Bastille Day

July 30, 2010

Children at a nursery in Arborfield celebrated Bastille Day by dressing up in red, white and blue, eating brioche and learning the language of their continental counterparts.

Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI were among those who enjoyed the festivities being held to commemorate La Fete Nationale at Hazebrouck Nursery at Arborfield Garrison last Wednesday.

The children spent the day dressing up in traditional French costumes, sampling national dishes and learning words such as ‘bonjour’, ‘oui madame’ and ‘au revoir’.

The nursery’s French teacher, who is known by the children as Madame, also joined in with the celebrations.

Hannah Cooper, deputy manager at Hazebrouck, said: “The kids absolutely loved it. They had real good fun dressing up in traditional French costume, eating brioche and they loved their French class with Madame, who comes in once a week to teach French.”
