Radstock pupils celebrate cultures

March 04, 2010

Pupils at Radstock Primary School were celebrating the different cultures of their school during an international evening last Wednesday.

More than 25 cultures represented by families at Radstock Primary School in Radstock Lane, Lower Earley, inspired the event, which featured a display of information, pictures and artefacts.

Parents demonstrated cooking traditional foods from their own cultures and music and dance workshops also took place throughout the evening where people could share their own traditions.

Headteacher Drusilla Derrick said: “Our children and their families have a wealth of culture and traditions and    everyone is keen to learn more about each other in the school community.

“In our school many of the children are bilingual and in total 28 different languages are spoken at home.

“Learning to speak another language is great fun and all our children learn to speak Spanish and French as part of the school curriculum.”

Councillor Rob Stanton, executive member for children’s services, said: “The international evening is a fun way for pupils and parents to share their experiences and learn more about different cultures.”

Parents manned stalls during the evening where they showcased their skills.
