Plea for cash for Highdown

July 02, 2009

A new sixth form block at Highdown School can only go ahead if the council can raise £4.3 million.

Reading Borough Council cabinet will be asked to put in a bid for the cash from the Learning and Skills Council on Monday.

Pupils, staff and the community have been working with the council on an eco-friendly building for the school in Surley Row which would accommodate 150 extra pupils and lots of new courses.

The council hopes to hear its bid is successful by October to allow the long-awaited new block to be completed by next summer.
