Nursery adopted by school

A nursery has reopened in a new home after being rescued from the brink of closure.

Birch Hill Pre-School has moved to its new home in the grounds of Birch Hill Primary School in Leppington.

And Bracknell Forest mayor Bob Wade was there to cut the ribbon on Friday.

But the school, which has 48 pupils aged two to five, might not have been here today if it weren’t for Birch Hill Primary School headmaster Alan Harding stepping in to save the day.

Pre-school supervisor Jo Wren said: “Because we are a charity it was becoming too expensive to continue in our old home in the community centre.

“And with the Government letting more and more children start school earlier and earlier I was saying to Mr Harding that the end for the pre-school could be getting near.

“He said he didn’t want us to close and to leave it with him.

“Later on we got a call from him saying we could use the modular unit at the school – you could hear the screams miles away!”

The move means the school will pay a fraction of the rent it was paying before and benefit from more contact with the school.

Jo added: “We’re part of the school environment now.

“It’s easier for the kids when they move up to the school and we can do things like play with sand and water now.

“The school has made us feel really welcome, the bigger kids wave when they walk by and the children love that.”

Since the move, the school has a new phone number – 07547 794849.
