19 species spotted at Lily Hill Park bird watch

February 04, 2010

Twitchers managed to spot 19 varieties of bird in just one hour in a local park.

Bird fans visited Lily Hill Park in Bullbrook on Saturday, as part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch to see which feathered friends were visiting the beauty spot.

Park manager Iain Macfarlane said: “Every year the RSPB does its Big Garden Birdwatch and we do this at the same time so people can practice before they go home and count the birds in their garden.

“We had a good turnout – there was a good mix of people as well as birds.

“We saw redwings, they are a winter visitor to the park and were nice to see, a lot of garden birds like long-tailed tits, blue tits, great tits and coal tits, and tree creepers and nut hatchers.

“We saw 19 different species.

“When we held the event last year we also saw 19 different species but this year they were different which was interesting.”
