New direction for mental health supportBy Becky Barnes

Support for people with mental health issues will move in a new direction and focus on prevention and early identification.
The previous mental health strategy was reviewed by executive councillors at their meeting on Tuesday when they gave new strategy, Healthy Minds, the go ahead from 2013 to 2018.
Glyn Jones, director of adult social care, health and housing, said: “If we can support people earlier, not only are we improving their quality of life, but it helps to avoid costly long-term treatment.”
Councillor Dale Birch, executive member for adult social services, health and housing, added: “This strategy comes after months of consultation with people with mental health needs, residents, our partners and voluntary organisations.
“Since the last strategy, there have been major changes within health and social care, as well as the demand for these services within the borough.
“If you have mental health needs, or know of someone who does, then I urge you to read this very important document.”
