Cheap eats in Reading?

August 24, 2012

With The Royals and Reading Festival putting our beloved town firmly in the nation’s mind, a national newspaper has turned its spotlight on our top 10 budget eats.

And when you look at their mouth-watering chart it certainly shows what a tasty, multi-cultural and culinary town we are – but do you agree?

Here’s what the Guardian picked out:

Royal Tandoori, Duke Street.

Cafe Madras, Whitley Street.

Stewed! hot food kiosk, Reading Station.

Sweeney & Todd pie shop, Castle Street.

Tutu’s Ethiopian Table, RISC Global Cafe, London Street.

Mission Burrito, The Oracle.

Bill’s Restaurant, St Mary’s Church House, Chain Street.

Picnic deli-cafe, Butter Market.

Pepe Sale Sardinian restaurant, Queen’s Walk.

Pau Brasil Portuguese-Brazilian deli-cafe, Mount Pleasant.

Workhouse Coffee Company, George Hotel, King Street.

Do you agree? Can you top this tasty tally? Is your favourite food haunt listed?

Bill's is not cheap, nor from memory (haven't been there for a while) is Pepe Sale. Picnic's coffee is better and much cheaper than the chain coffee bars which surround it so that and (no brainer) Sweeney's, get my votes.

Can you please define cheap / budget eat. You can eat in Cafe Madras or Chennai Dosa (near the Library) which is better, for under a fiver, try doing that at Royal Tandoori. You cannot compare snack houses with restaurants.
