Patisserie Valerie is coming to Reading

April 24, 2012

A patisserie known for supplying stylish cakes and chocolates to the affluent and famous of Belgravia and Kensington is coming to Reading.

Patisserie Valerie started life in central London and it counts Barbara Windsor and Ronnie Corbett among its regular customers.

But the chain is rapidly expanding and is due to move in to Broad Street by the end of May.

The cafes offer hand made cakes and patisseries, continental breakfasts, lunches, teas and coffees.

Patisserie Valerie has opened a string of new cafes around the country in the last two years, including nearby Henley-on-Thames.

The Reading store will open on the site of the old Coffee Republic unit, on the corner of Broad Street and Minster Street, which has been empty since closing suddenly in July 2010.

I hope they'll have space aside for shopping baskets-on-wheels. So many town centre cafes don't think of us oldies when planning their layouts. Oh and I hope they're going to do their tarts - we like a tart with out tea when out shopping

They may sell exceedingly scrumptious pastries but the service Mr Pickle and I received in their Henley store left a very bitter taste. We opted for table service (they have a menu listing all their pastries) only to be told by the waitress that she didn't know what pastries were still available and that we'd need to get back up and go and look for ourselves...cue us getting up, wandering over to the counter to find out, only to then be sharply told by the woman behind the counter that "if you want serving then you'll need to go and sit back down"... After explaining that, actually, we'd been sent over by her colleague (she made no attempt to apologise btw) she proceeded to miserably explain the names of the pastries that were left as nothing was labelled.

Looking back, I'm amazed we didn't just walk out there and then. We certainly won't be going back to the Henley store. As for one in Reading, I'd be happy to try it out...like I said, exceedingly scrumptious pastries!!

Great news, need a bit of quality in Reading, rather than bland chains.

Brilliant and about time. I love these pastries. Stunning in their beauty and taste. Patisserie Valerie is fantastic and well worth a visit - I guarantee you won't be able to resist for long. I hope they will be serving assam too.
