TV chef tells of great disappointment

The West Berkshire mum who has been cooking up a storm on MasterChef said she was “devastated” to go out in Wednesday night’s show.
Annie Assheton, 39, of Cock Lane, Bradfield Southend, had been a favourite of the judges in previous shows, but a caramel parfait that failed to freeze and overcooked lamb let her down.
She said: “I know it sounds a bit melodramatic to say so but when you are in the MasterChef bubble, it becomes all-consuming.
“You think about food all day. You think food, you live food, you dream about it.
“So when it suddenly ends, it’s a shock.”
Since the show was filmed, Mrs Assheton has had time to come to terms with her defeat.
But she said: “My husband was dreading it and he had to experience it for the first time on Wednesday night.
“But we had a glass of Champagne and I try to think of it as having reached the last six.”
Reaching the last six out of 22,000 contestants is certainly something to raise a glass to.
Mrs Assheton, who is a part-time administrator and has a son aged four and a daughter aged six, hopes to become a food writer.
She said: “It has been the most fantastic experience. It was the most amazing thing I have ever done.”
