New-look Horn has plenty for customers

September 02, 2010

A traditional town centre pub is under new management and has been given a makeover.

The Horn, in Castle Street, is now run by Alan and Sandra Bleeks and has recently undergone a full refurbishment.

Local businesses were invited to a launch party last month and Mr Bleeks said the new-look pub has already been receiving favourable reviews.

He said: “A lot of people have been coming in and saying, ‘Wow, it looks different here.’

“And customer reviews on websites have gone from being negative to very positive within a few days of opening.” The pub, which offers three real ales and food at lunchtime and early evening, will be showing rugby matches on its three screens.

The new licensees hope to welcome townsfolk, office workers and shoppers to the spruced-up local.

Friend of mine went in last night and they wanted to charge them £1.80 for half of bitter when a pint is only £3.30! Needless to say no sale.

Will have to pay a visit, and eat my words. Never judge a pub but its outside decor

They've done a good job on it. Worth a visit. There need to be more 'proper' pubs in the town centre.

Good luck to it - pubs need every hand they can these days.

Was in there on Saturday night - it's actually really nice - seems to of got rid of the slightly "dodgy" characters that used to go in there - although, they got rid of the pool table, was always good to go in there and have a few games and a few drinks

   I wish it well.

Haven't been in there for about 8 years! Doesn't look very inviting from the outside, but to be honest I've not really looked that closely recently. Saw the outside seating when walking past yesterday though; nice thought, although who'd want to be smoked out by passing bus diesel fumes . . .

Looks and smells the same to me unfortunately. Please sort the toilets out as a priority.
