Cooking up a storm at The Oracle Fresh Food Festival
By Anna RobertsJune 10, 2009
Top chefs Daniel Galmiche, Paul Clerehugh and Gino D’Acampo served up some classy fare at The Oracle’s Fresh Food Festival.
The event ran from Wednesday last week to Saturday and – despite some iffy weather – proved a hit.
Top of the bill were the top foodies’ cooking demonstrations.
But there were plenty of other things to do and listen to including a cocktail masterclass and live music courtesy of the Ray Shea Jazz Quartet.
Charlene Silk, 20, from Caversham, watched Mr Galmiche work wonders with fish on Saturday.
She said: “It is very interesting and is a different way to spend an afternoon.”
Couple Shaun Greenwood and Simone Stubbs, both of Twyford, visited the festival.
Miss Stubbs, 21, said: “It is a day off work isn’t it – and something I would not normally do.”
Mr Greenwood, 20, added: “We were shopping and walked past and wondered what was going on. We’ve been looking round – it is good.”
Wendy Barter runs Pudding Lane Nursery in Reading Road. She had a stall displaying plants at the show.
She said: “We’ve had a good show – I think Wednesday was probably the best day.”
Fellow stall owner Marianne Hill, of Vitality farm Shop in Theale, said: “We’ve been quite busy – people want to try what we are selling.”
One of Reading’s youngest food connoisseurs was four-year-old Madeline Stewart from Katesgrove who went to the festival with her mum Jasmine, 30.
Madeline tried all different types of foods – including curry – but eventually decided to buy some tasty pate.
The youngster, due to start school shortly, said: “The sausages are my favourite.”
Mrs Stewart, 30, added: “We’ve had a great day and Madeline likes looking round.”
Pam Harper, who runs a fine food stall, added: “We’ve had a really good turn out – everyone likes trying the different food.”
