McDonalds brings 24 new jobs to Reading

February 17, 2012

Fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s has announced it is to create 24 new jobs in the town this year.

The company estimates about 30 per cent of the posts will be filled by first-time workers and about half will go to people under 25.

McDonald’s says the creation of jobs is due to continued growth driven by investment in its restaurants, extended opening hours and constant menu improvements.

The company, which says it will be creating 2,500 new jobs across the United Kingdom this year, now offers apprenticeships and foundation degrees to staff.

Franchisee Pru Naik, who runs six McDonald’s restaurants in Reading, said: “The job market is tough and young people are taking the biggest hit in a competitive job market so I am pleased to be able to offer young people in Reading the chance of a job.

“As a business we have a fantastic education programme in place that we have worked hard to build in the last five years, meaning that all of our people have the chance to learn while they earn.”

Jobhunters interested in working for McDonald’s can download a prospectus at www.mcdonalds.co.uk/people or visit their local careers centre.

McDonald's is participating in the government's workfare scheme, profiting from free labour provided at the taxpayer's expense.

What GetReading need to ask is whether these jobs will be filled by workfare placements. Otherwise this is nothing more than corporate spin.

   Yippee for them.

It’s probably called an apprenticeship that will exclude them from paying the national minimum wage. That’s what NEXT do.

I wonder if McD uses the same junior staff motivation as Subway . . . shout at your staff until they get it right?

But I must ask the question - does anyone ever go to McD's for anything other than a burger? I mean, would you go there for a salad?
