June 23, 2011

A small drop in the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) has been recorded in Reading for the first time in three months.

Figures for May showed 3,689 people claiming jobless benefits in the borough, which is 3.4 per cent of the working age population compared to 3.5 per cent the previous month.

The figures for the UK and South East remained static at 3.7 per cent and 2.5 per cent respectively.

The percentage in Wokingham borough stayed the same at 1.3 per cent, and in West Berkshire at 1.8 per cent.
