Council redundancies approved

March 11, 2010

An early retirement and five redundancies at Wokingham Borough Council were approved at a meeting this week.

The council’s personnel committee discussed the future of the six posts during a private agenda item at Shute End.

The retirement is described in the agenda as “in the interests of service efficiency” and the report on the role comes from the head of governance and democratic services.

The committee also approved the “early release of pension on efficiency grounds for a headteacher”.

Four of the redundancies came from community care and housing and another came under a report from the general manager of children’s services.

During the private agenda item, the committee was also due to discuss the transformation of insurance service at the council, however there are no further details of this available to the public.

The council announced last month it would be seeking to shed 150 jobs over the next three years, however hopes most of these can be made through natural wastage of staff leaving.

The job losses are part of plans to save £9.5 million over three years.
