HomeSense store coming to town

January 28, 2010

TK Maxx’s sister store HomeSense will open its doors in Reading in April.

The homeware shop, which will be in Forbury Retail Park, will create about 35 full and part-time jobs.

The store will hold more than 30,000 different items for every room in the house from kitchenware to furniture – and there will be deliveries of new items twice a day.

The company said, like TK Maxx, the stock will give savings of up to 60 per cent off the retail price.

HomeSense spokes-woman Victoria Wright said: “We are really excited about bringing HomeSense to Reading. We think there are lots of fashionable and savvy shoppers in the city who would love to put a stylish stamp on their homes.

“Forbury Retail Park is a great location, in walking distance from the centre with good car parking so customers can take away their bargains there and then.”

HomeSense has 14 stores across the UK.

We need more £1 shops: thousands are on minimum wages with no hope of a decent wage to support living in England's third most expensive county.

I, for one, am glad this is not an 'upmarket' town. All that means is that prices are higher, shops are more pretentious and people are snobby. If you want that, I believe there is a place called London which is full of people desperately trying to impress each other with acts of conspicuous consumption - the blighters.

I thought the recession was over in Reading? Why can't we have something a little more upmarket?
