Tributes to ‘caring’ Donna
January 24, 2008
TRIBUTES have been paid to a community volunteer who died on Christmas Eve.
Donna Gleave, 88, became a member of the Bracknell Thursday Stroke Club 15 years ago when she suffered a stroke herself.
She first joined as secretary and then as an organiser arranging the programme of activities, day trips and holidays the club offers its members.
>> Leave a message of condolence for Mrs Gleave and her family and friends.
It is one of several clubs supported by Bracknell Forest Voluntary Action (BFVA).
In a tribute, Chris Cowap, of the BFVA, said: “She will be sorely missed, not only by her loving family, but also by her many friends, colleagues and those she supported during her dedicated and invaluable work with local community groups.
“She provided her time and energy freely and, with her endless effort and enthusiasm, helped and supported many people.
“Donna was passionate about what she did and, as well as providing direct support to stroke sufferers, she often spoke out for the services she helped to provide, and the rights of the people she supported.
“She touched a lot of people’s lives in many different ways.”
Mrs Gleave also volunteered at the Bracknell branch of Carers UK, which supports carers across the country.
Councillor Jacqui Ryder said: “Donna was a very caring member of our community – people mattered to her.
“She would do all she could to give help if needed. She was a true volunteer.”
