Cinderella at the HexagonBy Sophie Herdman

Former Emmerdale actress Sally Oliver is set to join the all-star cast of Cinderella, The Hexagon’s annual pantomime.
It’s her debut panto appearance and Sally, who was Lexi King in the soap, will play Dandini, Prince Charming’s wingman.
She said: “I am really excited about doing the panto. I’ve got younger nieces and nephews who are already really excited too. I love kids and I love entertaining so it’s great.”
Although this is her first panto, it’s not Sally’s first time on stage. Before Emmerdale she played Amy in Charley’s Aunt at the Southwold Summer Theatre and starred as Catherine in the award-winning play Proof.
It is her first theatre performance in two years though but Sally remains confident.
“I don’t think I’ll get any stage fright,” she says.
“The lazy person in me prefers doing TV rather than theatre because there is less to learn, but I am looking forward to this.”
Her fellow cast members in the glamour-meets-riches pantomime include actress and one-time Celebrity Big Brother contestant Rula Lenska, who will play the Fairy Godmother and EastEnders’ Rolan Bell (Theo Kelly) who will appear as Buttons.
“I haven’t met any of my co-stars yet because rehearsals start in November,” she says, “but I can’t wait.”
Sally originally planned to stay with her mum in Dagenham, Essex, where she grew up, during the show and commute in every day. But, given the jam-packed performance schedule, she’s decided to find someone more local.
“The countryside around Reading is gorgeous and it’s not too far away from the town centre,” she says.
Sally quit Emmerdale in August this year in a dramatic final rooftop scene watched by 6.8 million viewers.
“It was my first TV role and I’m nearly 26 now.
I wanted to leave on top. Now I am auditioning for a few different roles in the theatre but I haven’t got anything sorted yet.”
Cinderella runs at The Hexagon from Saturday, December 5 to Sunday, January 3. For more details, log on to www.readingarts.com or call (0118) 960 6060.
