Double treat for musical lovers

Two classic musicals hit the local amateur stage this week.

Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate runs at The Hexagon from tomorrow until Saturday in a production by Reading’s Sainsbury Singers, while West Side Story is staged at The Kenton, Henley, until Saturday to mark the show’s 50th anniversary.

Robert Daws, from ITV’s The Royal and Dawn Steele, from the BBC’s The Monarch Of The Glen, are teamed in the award-winning play Blackbird at Oxford Playhouse from tomorrow until Saturday.

John Buchan’s thriller The 39 Steps, runs at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre until Saturday.

A new comedy That’s Love continues its premiere run at The Mill at Sonning.

The play B is 4 Black is performed at 21 South Street, Reading, from Wednesday to Saturday, while the play Below Zero is at The Haymarket, Basingstoke, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Two popular operas – La Traviata and Madama Butterfly – are at The Anvil, Basingstoke, on Thursday and Friday respectively.

On Saturday, Thomas Carroll plays Dvorak’s cello concerto with Reading Symphony Orchestra at Reading concert hall and McVay conducts The Glenn Miller Orchestra at Newbury Corn Exchange.
