WILKES SAYS HORROR IS NO DRAG FOR HIM
November 27, 2002
The Rocky Horror Show, New Vic, Woking: Jonathan Wilkes.
THE centuries old argument of men needing to get in women’s shoes to know what it’s really like is not lost on actor Jonathan Wilkes.
The 24-year-old “all round entertainer” is currently donning the stilettos and fishnets to star as Frank N Furter in Richard O Brien’s big, bad Rock ‘n’ Roll musical The Rocky Horror Show, which comes to Woking’s New Victoria Theatre next week.
And despite the sore feet, Jonathan says he is relishing the role.
He said: “Its weird but I’ve really started to enjoy wearing the fishnets and high heels.
“When I put my outfit on I am 6ft 6ins tall in high heels. I feel indestructible, like no one can mess with me.
“I have to admit the heels are killing me! I think I want a footspa for Christmas, so if anybody wants to buy me one they are welcome to.
“But at least now I know how women feel, and it makes you appreciate trainers too!”
He says that rehearsals have been going well and that working with the cast, which includes Big Brother’s Nasty Nick Bateman as the narrator, has been “fantastic”.
He says: “I have had a great time in rehearsals with this very, very talented cast.”
Jonathan was born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, and is fanatical about football.
However when the showbiz bug bit, any footballing ambitions were pushed aside.
He said: “But I still love my football and I still play a lot and watch it all the time.
“But I see myself as an all round entertainer and I love singing and acting.”
The Rocky Horror Show runs at the New Victoria from Monday, December 2, to Saturday, December 7.Tickets start from £12. Call the box office on (01483) 545900.
