Pop-up success for outside:inside festival

By Sally Bryant
July 27, 2011

The explosion of music and the arts that is outside:inside is almost at an end and the town has been a more colourful place throughout July.

The pop-up festival has lived up to its name, with performers appearing everywhere from pubs to empty shops and spaces that normally go unnoticed.

Last weekend saw improvised drama on the streets from Hogarth Productions; and music in the sun in Broad Street, in the Old Boozer (the former Coopers Arms in Market Place) and in St Laurence’s Church in Friar Street.

Bands played in the Purple Turtle in Gun Street, O’Neal’s in Friar Street and the Oakford Social Club in Blagrave Street.

The George courtyard in King Street was alive with the spoken word from Poejazzi and there was art in the gazebo in Market Place, in the form of Vicky Vergou’s Language Paralanguage project.

Festival manager Tim Hooper said: “It’s been excellent so far, so much fun. Reactions have been so good and it’s great for the town.”

Now organisers are revving up for the grand finale on Friday and Saturday, which will centre on a pop-up takeover of the luxury pentahotel in Oxford Road in the town centre.

Full details are at www.outsideinsidefestival.com and tickets are available via the website or from the pop-up shop in Market Place.

Are you having a complete bubble bath? I went to every event and not only was there a complete lack of people, they cancelled 3 main acts... WHICH might i add they haven't refunded for yet or contacted anyone that purchased tickets. If you're calling the complete lack of incompetent people running a music festival a success then granted. They money they would have made for tickets sale for bands that played for free would be an absolute joke. It was never about the music, it was abou thte money and thats what was bad about it all because I love music, and it is my life and i saw some great bands but they deserve to be paid!!!! I sincerely hope the the event organisers lost thousands from hiring the Penta hotel and having very expensive acts performing which they failed to promote proper and i was watching 'Drums Of Death' and i was the only person in there. If you Inside, you might as well be outside and if your outside at the inside.... GO HOME

Biggest 'jack in the box' festival going!

If anyone likes house music, check out the Elsewhere DJs playing on the Saturday - I thoroughly recommend them.

another wide variety of fun - anyone that says there is nothing on in Reading needs to get out and open their eyes.
