The Session: Royal knees up at Club Velocity

By Linda Serck
April 27, 2011

As you can see from the gig guide, there are lots of gigs happening on Royal Wedding day.

One of the many musical highlights of Friday is surely Club Velocity, with a triumvirate of artists/bands playing at the Rising Sun arts centre in Silver Street, Reading. They are all exciting, cutting edge and fresh.

Headliners Tom Williams And The Boat are a six-piece nu-folk band from Tunbridge Wells who are literally making a big noise on the BBC.

The band played four times at Glastonbury last year as well as Latitude and Hop Farm festivals. Album Too Slow was released in February. They have a growing fanbase which includes Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Huey Morgan.

Dark indie-rock outfit Peers from Reading played their debut gig for Club Velocity in Janaury 2010.

Since then the teenage four-piece were invited by the BBC to play Reading/Leeds festival 2010, played on Radio One and gained management who have the likes of Ash and Chapel Club on their books.

And finally Sid Siddle from Club Velocity really champions Dylan-Louise, who he describes as having “the voice of an angel and the lungs of a giant”.

The 19-year-old half-American from Burghfield is being hailed as a ‘major player’.

- Doors open at 8pm on Friday, April 29 and tickets are £6 or £5 in advance from wegottickets.com.
