A Wokingham mobile DJ is recruiting members for the National Association of Disc Jockeys (NADJ) as part of a national drive for the group to become a vocal lobby for the DJ-ing profession.

Steve Sansom, 37, of Clifton Road, is treasurer for NADJ and wants to get more people hooked on DJ-ing.

He said: “The campaign is a drive to popularise DJ-ing into an art form.”

He believes strongly in the benefits of the association.

Mr Sanson said: “DJs encompass many genres and backgrounds – there are club DJs, reggae DJs, those that mix in their bedrooms and mobile DJs. We aim to represent them all.

“The more numbers we add and the more awareness we can  create, then the more benefits we can pass on to our members.

“We are all volunteers on the committee but we feel passionately about music and we are gaining recognition for our work as a consequence of this.”

Mr Sansom is the owner and DJ for Positive Vibes Mobile Disco, which provides disco services for weddings, birthdays and schools.

He set up the company in 1994. However, he has also teamed up with brother-in-law Daren Jasper, who also runs a mobile disco company called Full Throttle.

Their combined business, The Ultimate Disco Company, offers a tailored services to clients.

“As a kid, I just loved music and wanted to be a DJ,” said Mr Sansom.

With more than 100 bookings a year, the mobile disco business is booming for Steve.

“Now that the economy is getting back to normal, people are spending money

“I took record numbers of bookings in the past couple of months,” he said.

Mr Sansom lives with wife Trace. He also has a teenaged stepson, Kyle, and a six-month-old baby called Rhys.

The climax to the NADJ calendar is the group’s forthcoming annual national trade show on Sunday, April 25, in Gloucester.

Major industry leaders, manufacturers and retailers have all been invited to attend and the association has scheduled its annual meeting for the afternoon.

Mr Sanson said: “This is a must for all DJs united by the love of music.”
