The Test Pilots take over the Global Café

By Linda Serck
October 21, 2009

The Global Café on London Street was invaded by Reading’s own Kamikaze Test Pilots on the Friday October 9, promoting the launch of their new album Diaspora.

Following a string of higher profile gigs including Basingstoke Live Festival 2009, Zimfest 2009 and the London International Tattoo Convention 2009, the boys put on an incredible show for their fans, keeping the bar staff busy and overheating the PA at one point.

Playing tracks from the new album as well as from their previous EP Into The Sun their set was reflective of the rich variety of influences driving this band, fusing hard rock with African ‘Chimurenga’ music in some places.

Minor stage invasions were commonplace, as the band whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

Frontman Ryan Niemandt said: “Drinks were spilled, songs were chanted, there was much dancing and much laughing and a smidge of moshing and out of tune singing (from the crowd!), but everyone had a genuinely good time. A job well done!”

The band were ably supported by the oddity that is Headlove, whose lead singer sported a top hat and a Superman suit! Smokey B*******  also had a hand in pleasing the crowd with their blend of folk and punk, and Noisewater opened the night.
