Fans flock to meet Peter Andre
By Paul RobinsSeptember 18, 2009
It was total insania in Reading when pop star Peter Andre paid a flying visit to meet thousands of screaming fans.
Shrieks, shakes and hyper-ventilation filled The Oracle as the singer popped by for a signing session at HMV to promote his new album Revelation.
Armed with copies of the CD, thousands of ‘mysterious girls’ – and a handful of boys – queued for hours to get a ‘flava’ of their hunky hero.
Dedicated fans who remembered his first visit to the town 14 years ago – when he wowed pupils at The Willink School in Burghfield Common – were also in the queue which snaked its way down to the Riverside.
Schoolgirls Shufish Oodacre and Tayla Benson could barely contain their excitement after meeting their idol.
“Its amazing because he is proper fit and we never get famous people around here,” said Tayla.
“And he is like amazingly buff. Everyone was screaming and I nearly wet myself when I saw him because he is so fit.”
Fellow ‘Team Pete’ member Vicki Dennis said: “He’s a really nice guy. Really lovely. I met him 10 years ago and he remembered me. He said it was lovely to see me.”
Shaking as she reached the front of the queue, Kayley Knott said: “I’ve got butterflies that no one can imagine. He is so gorgeous.”
Peter, 36 – who wrote and recorded the album over 18 months in London and Los Angeles – told getreading he was overwhelmed by the reaction. “I feel like I’m a teenager again,” he said. “I just can’t believe it. This is the biggest crowd we’ve had. I don’t think any of us expected this.” The pop star’s public support has bloomed since his split from ex-wife Katie Price.
He also delighted fans in Reading by announcing his plans to perform in town as part of his comeback tour next year, adding: “I can’t see how that wouldn’t happen because the crowd here is amazing.”
HMV staff were overrun, selling all 400 copies of Revelation – his fifth solo studio album – in store in a matter of hours.
Jemma Garland and friend Amy Tropman had been Andre fans since his heyday in the mid 90s.
“We used to go to concerts together all those years ago,” said Jemma. “He’s amazing and a genuine man.”
Millie Jarvis, who had queued up since 1pm to see Peter, added: “He is really fit for an old guy. I like everything about him – and I really like his kids too.”
After The Oracle visit, Peter popped in to Reading 107fm at its studios in Madejski Stadium where he was interviewed by Drivetime presenter Nic Foster and met Royals keeper Adam Federici.
The keeper had been in the studios the day before Peter’s visit and heard the singer was visiting and so returned saying: “I really want to see him!” Federici presented Andre with one of his shirts.
Mr Foster played a couple of tracks from the new album and Peter revealed his favourite track is Unconditional which he wrote as a tribute to his stepson Harvey.
He said: “Peter is a lovely, genuine guy. We really enjoyed his visit.”

Accidentally I might add. Paddy Swayze had died that morning, so I thought I'd pop in to grab Point Break on DVD. It was swamped.
I asked a security guard who was there, and he informed me it was "Peter F'in Andre".
Astonished to see lots of young men in the queue. Very strange.
They didn't have Point Break, if you're interested.

I have seen aid workers picking the survivors from earthquakey mess, firemen pulling dogs from burning buildings, but nothing compares to the bravery that M. Andre has shown in baring his soul to a hungry and unforgiving public. The tracks are a mixed bag of quashed emotion, from the opener 'Eyes of Desire' where he tells of his first meeting with the otherworldy Jordan Price to the firework strewn finale of 'Growing from Man to Boy via the Rocky Road of Media Puppetry' where he openly discusses his love of cats.
Andre is the next Michael Jackson and this album goes a long way to proving this. '
