Sea shanties and lo-fi folk

By Bill Francis
February 09, 2009

On Friday, an eclectic and eccentric songwriting collective from Fife will make the journey south – well, to South Street arts centre.

The Fence Collective will delight Reading with its diverse range of lo-fi folk, DIY electro and eccentric songwriting all delivered with charm and a pop sensibility.

Topping the bill is the collective’s founder, King Creosote. He returns to South Street following a sold out date in 2006.

Joining him is H.M.S. Ginafore, with whom he collaborated with for his recent album, Love + Hate = Hate.

Ms Ginafore will also sing a selection of her sea-shanties about small town life. Also appearing is Pip Dylan, who will play some of his acoustic country numbers.

The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost £10. They’re available from the box office on (0118) 960 6060 or by logging on to www.readingarts.com.
