Oldies are the best

By Linda Serck

If you like your tribute bands and golden oldies then you can head to Wellington Country Park next month to see some of the best in the business for the Marvellous festival.

From Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20, 14 bands will have you singing and dancing amid fabulous music, picnics, fireworks and family fun.

On the Friday, the Marvellous crew present their first open-air classic rock show with Boot-Led Zeppelin, Limehouse Lizzy, Bon Giovi, and local blues-rock legend Larry Miller.

The gates open at 2pm on Saturday with T Rextasy, Ultimate Earth Wind & Fire, Bob Marley tribute Legend, Platinum Abba, and show headliners Jive Talkin’ with an amazing set of Bee Gees classics, complete with orchestral strings and guest female artistes.

And at last – Elvis is back in the building. Lee ‘Memphis’ King – one of the best all-live Elvis show complete with eight-piece band prepares to take the Marvellous crowd by storm on Sunday.

The last night also hosts Viva Santana and Oasis tribute Definitely MightBe.

But that’s not all. The big surprise in the line-up is a set by 70s glam-rockers The Sweet with a show featuring all of their hits from Wig Wam Bam to Ballroom Blitz, and folk-rockers Feast Of Fiddles (Fairport Convention/Steeleye Span) opening Sunday’s proceedings with a wall of sound and some rousing tunes. www.marvellousfestivals.com

And relax ...

Sundays are for relaxing and enjoying yourself. And you can do both for Monkey Suit’s monthly music night on Sunday at the Oakford Social Club. The free

music night at the popular Blagrave Street venue kicks off at 3pm with bands on at 7pm.

James Yuill
Headlining is a London-based artist who’s catching people’s eye with his unique fusion of folk and electronica to create lush, dreamscape music.

James has already performed at some great events this year including SXSW Festival in Texas and Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Plus with a recorded Radio 1 live session under his belt, increasing airplay and with a new single No Pins Allowed out soon, you can expect to hear a lot more from him.

Lady and the Lost Boys
An indie/pop piano-driven and female-led band from the Home Counties, this band produces profoundly melodic music that pricks up your ears.

Heights
Opening the night is Newbury instrumental rock band Heights, who produce atmospheric film score music akin to Mogwai. It’s epic, emotional and wonderful.
