Pop idol Robbie Williams showed he was an angel by giving a blood sample to keep his pledge to a fan.

The singer is aiming to become a bone marrow donor so he can help to save a life if he is considered suitable.

Williams, 27, promised he would sign up after being touched by the plight of 23-year-old Johanna MacVicar who has leukaemia and will die if a suitable donor is not found. When he visited Glasgow for shows at the weekend he began the process by having a sample of his blood taken with Johanna - from Bishopton, Renfrewshire - looking on.
