Red carpet rolled out for Guildford's music awards
September 29, 2009
FAHRENHEIT 55 was again the venue for the second Guildford Brit Awards last Wednesday night, with the spotlight firmly on the town's aspiring musicians.
Organiser Byron Johnston came up with the concept to “give recognition to the people who are always working hard, always doing shows and also making some fantastic music along the way”.
The awards were held as part of Fahrenheit 55’s Strangers On A Train live music night.
This year three new categories were added - the GuilFest Acoustic Stage Award, the Fahrenheit 55 Wishlist Award (for the artist that the owners of the bar would love to have perform but do not have a big enough sound system for), and the GU2 Radio Award, for the best musical guest on GU2 Radio at the University of Surrey.
Guests arrived to a red carpet and champagne reception. The opening part of the evening saw Alistair Cowan providing a set of covers while guests mingled, networked and posed for pictures. The awards ceremony was presented by GU2 Radio DJs Byron Johnston and Andy Vale.
The winners were as follows:
Best Support Artist: Jason Dollery
Best Male: Jono McCleery
Best Female: Anna Neale
GuilFest Acoustic Stage Award: Kit Hawes
Best Live Band: Newrising
Fahrenheit 55 Wishlist Award: The Dirty Disco
Best Songwriter: Love.Stop.Repeat
The GU2 Radio Award: Midgar
