Bank of Dave

Channel 4

10pm

This is the the story of a man, a man who got so fed up with the behaviour of the big banks in this country he set up his own one.

That was last year, and Burnley man Dave Fishwick is back to tell us all how he's getting on.

He seems a likeable bloke, and who seems to relish taking on the banking authorities and their millions of miles of hugely complicated red-tape and regulations.

Highlights include him driving about singing along to 'We built this city on Rock and Roll' and playing the theme tune to The Magnificent Seven to get him in the mood for high-level meetings.

He's a self made millionaire, but he runs his bank in a very simple way - five per cent interest on savings accounts, gives loans to local companies and even gives his profits to charity.

What a good egg.

I think what I like is his contempt for bankers and banking, and in particular, the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

I'd guess the FSA probably thinks of him as a massive pain in the neck, but we find there is one country where his way of thinking is accepted - Germany.

Now, I'm no financial expert, but I'm pretty sure the Germans are one of the few countries left in Europe not staring into a gaping chasm of endless, uncontrollable debt, so perhaps they know what they're talking about.
