Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes separate

March 16, 2010

Reading's golden couple Kate Winslet and her director husband Sam Mendes have announced they are to separate.

A statement issued by their lawyers yesterday said: “Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year.

“The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”

The couple, who married in 2003, were both born in Reading and are both Oscar winners.

Sam Mendes won his for directing American Beauty in 1999 while Kate Winslet famously had to wait until last year when she triumphed with the Best Actress award for her performance in The Reader.

She just about reaches my Lardy Da fancy pants level. So yes I think I could take her on. Lucky thing she is.

Anna the Porridge Lady, on the other hand, is a bit more within my grasp. Or...so I'd like to think:)

Chaps, we need to face the painful reality; Kate is a goddess among us mere mortals. For as down to Earth and personable as she is, she's also a multimillionaire, Oscar winner. She married Sam, because he was on her level, professionally. I've been smitten with her for 16 years, and I'll just have to keep on, being smitten.

Problem is you'd have Roger as a father in law. Not sure if I could afford the guiness needed. :-)

And mods, I'm joking. I think Roger is a lovely bloke.
