DON'T PANIC - FINCHER FILM WILL NOT HAVE YOU SCARED
November 27, 2002
Panic Room (15): Stars: Jodie Foster, Forest Whittaker, Dwight Yoakam, Jared Leto, Kristen Stewart. Director: David Fincher
FANS of David Fincher - director of Fight Club and Seven — might well be frustrated by his latest predictable, mainstream effort.
With the kind of reputation that sells films alone, Fincher has definitely rested on his laurels with Panic Room.
The film stars Jodie Foster as Meg Altman, a divorced mother looking for a new home for herself and her daughter Sarah (Kirsten Stewart).
Foster finds an ideal New York apartment, which happens to have a secret room called, surprisingly enough, a panic room.
It has concrete walls, a buried phone line, ventilation system and bank of surveillance monitors that cover nearly every corner of the house — all protected by an impenetrable steel door. Pretty safe, you would think. But no.
Three men break into the apartment and Meg and Sarah are forced to take refuge in their human safe.
I was expecting another radical, high voltage, stylishly violent psychological thriller.
Instead, I got a superficial, run-of-the mill movie.
