Are you ready to enjoy Bracknell's Big Day Out?

This year’s family fun day at South Hill Park goes under the sea to focus on the possible effects of climate change.

Climate change forms the focus for South Hill Park’s Big Day Out on Saturday.

The one-day wonder of a summer festival, which this year celebrates its sixth birthday, will once again feature a wide range of music and performing arts for all the family.

The theme sees the festival imagine what the world would be like if we lived underwater and as part of this, Reading’s Global Café will present its take on the topic while a children’s procession at 5.30pm will feature a large crustacean created by their own hands. It will be inspired by H G Wells’ War Of The Worlds.

There will also be a special performance by Sound Interventions, who will present Drift, an outdoor show which imagines, in an abstract way, what our environmental crimes might soon be doing to planet earth.

Drift will be a procession staged on top of a flood, will use recycled instruments and include a fire show.

William Trevelyan, the Big Day Out’s organiser, says: “The festival often feels like a summary of everything you’ve not heard about but that’s what makes it so wonderful. We are presenting so many new and varied experiences and, if the great outdoors is where you’re at, the Big Day Out Festival is bound to have something for you.

“There’s a strong family focus to the event, especially during daylight hours, with the festival’s daytime activities climaxing in a children’s parade at 5.30pm.

“After this, Big Day Out takes on a stronger adult appeal with all kinds of events going on under canvas and outdoors too.”

As well as the main events there will be the usual diverse programme including sets by The Baghaddies, Coda, Drift and Arun Gosh.

There will also be a special children’s area which promises everything from inflatables, storytelling and craft workshops as well as the children’s procession to keep them entertained.

This year’s Big Day Out takes place on Saturday, July 10, between 1pm and 11.30pm. For the first time, there will be an entry charge for the day and you are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds, although only alcohol bought on site is allowed.

- Entry to the day costs £3 in advance or £5 on the door, under 18s get in free. For more details, call the box office on (01344) 484123 or log on to www.southhillpark.org.uk.

The Big Day Out also has its own website, www.bigdayout2010.webs.com.

J*S, Not all people are scared, im not, if it happens it happens, theres nought that can be done so live life to the fullest, alot of this climate change stuff is deliberatly exagerrated to scare us into doing more, unfortunatly the world goes through stages of change, it has done ever since the dino ages, just one of those things!

Somehow I don't think children are going to be scared of a giant paper mache crab they've contructed themselves? A nightmare of a day for a grouchy pedant I'm sure but should fun for everyone else! Hooray!

Gnome, you might not know this, but we humans are scared of drowning, and of floods, and our young ones are scared of a future which the adults are scared of, and also they will be scared of crustaceans modelled on monsters from the War of the Worlds. All in all, a nightmare of a day out for them.

Crikey J*S, it's a fun family event where some kids will learn about climate change, they probably know more than you already! I cetainly don't think anyone's going to be scared, it's just a bit of fun and education at the same time.

Scare the kids day! Maybe some are not yet worried about global warming? Roll up, roll up,, scare them witless here!

The organisers should be ashamed of themselves. Their time would have better spent studying the stark lack of evidence for any alarm about human influence on climate.
