Titanic exhibition sets sail

October 23, 2008

On Saturday a new exhibition devoted to one of the most famous ships of all time opens in Basingstoke.

Titanic: Honour and Glory features many rare and previously unseen artefacts from the liner’s passengers and crew.

It includes some of the beautiful china dinner plates which served the first meals aboard the Titanic and a Steiff bear which William Moyes, senior 6th engineer, had taken for luck.

The exhibition, held at The Milestones Musuem on its first visit to the South, will incorporate examples of the luxurious interiors of sister ships Olympic and Britannic, as well as props and costumes from James Cameron’s film.

Some of the beautiful dresses worn by actress Kate Winslet and her stunning Heart of the Ocean necklace can be seen alongside photographs of the couple on whom the film’s story was based.

The exhibition, which runs until February, is open Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets cost £7.50 (adults), £6.75 (concs), £4.50 (child aged 5 to 15), with special family, group and school rates available.
