Comedy: The end of the Reading Comedy Festival

19/10/2006

Grumpy Old Women.. and Jo Caulfield
THE Reading Comedy Festival will come to a grand close this weekend with acts a-go-go over the next three days.

This evening a trio of grumpy old women – namely Jenny Éclair, Annette Badland and Rhona Cameron – are taking the stage at The Hexagon to moan about everything.

Sadly the show’s now fully booked but don’t despair because there’s more comedy going on not too far away from the Queen’s Walk venue.

Popular stand-up Jo Caulfield, who has been described as a “damn funny woman”, will entertain the crowds at South Street at 8pm.

For tickets, which cost a tenner, call the box office on (0118) 960 6060 – but you can also try your luck and head there hoping for spares at the door.

Felix Dexter
TOMORROW will bring yet more comedy with Felix Dexter and a trio of stand-ups gracing the stage at two town centre venues.

Felix, who was voted among the 100 top comedians of all time in a Channel 4 programme, revels in observational comedy, social and political satire – and a bit of ooh la la humour too.

The man, who will perform at the grand Concert Hall in Blagrave Street, has also starred in the Real McCoy show and the Lenny Henry Show.

The show, which is also organised as part of Black History Month, kicks off at 8pm and half an hour later, there will be as much laughter at another of the town’s venues, namely South Street, when the eponymous Comedy Club gets under way.

Terry Alderton, Steve Gribbin and Jarred Christmas will all strut their funny stuff as part of the evening.

Dexter's show will cost you £12.50 and entry to the South Street Comedy Club is £9.

For bookings, phone the box office on (0118) 960 6060.

Rebecca Carrington
THE extravaganza’s very last event will have a comedienne and a cello doing all sorts at South Street.

Rebecca Carrington will team up with her instrument for a night of musical mimicry, which will take the audience through bhangra, pop, rock and opera classics.

The show, which is called Many Ways To Play Your Lover, starts at 7.30pm on Sunday and entry costs £12. For bookings, ring the box office on (0118) 960 6060.

So Reading Comedy Festival 2006 is at its end..

Stars such as Ross Noble, Tim Vine and Russell Brand have been in town as well as plenty of emerging talent.
