Fools Gold for Buscot babiesBy Natalie Slater

Old school indie fans showed they had a heart as they donated more than £3,000 for the baby unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Music lovers at the Fools Gold event at the After Dark were more than happy to dig deep for the Babies in Buscot charity chosen by nightclub owner Neil Richards.
Their kind donations meant the ward, which looks after poorly or premature babies, can buy a new Vapotherm machine – which costs £4,000 – to help the little ones breathe.
Mr Richards said: “We have a charity night once a year and it generally coincides with Fools Gold but also the club’s anniversary.
“It was our 37th this year so we are delighted to still be able to put something back into the community after being here so long.
“We always put it to our customers to choose the charity and this year we had an overwhelming number of nominations for the Buscot charity so it was quite a clear choice really.
“It is always humbling to see how much our customers can donate in just one night and this year was no exception. Especially in the current economic climate, it has totally surpassed our expectations and I’m very proud of our customers and would like to thank them for their generosity.
“I admit to being slightly biased but I think we have the best customers in town.”
Donations were collected on the door, for song nominations and also with the sale of a Jack Daniels guitar. Fools Gold DJs Andy Stowell and Dan Winchester played for free on the night, on October 22.
And Mr Richards and his team handed over £3,010.07 to staff from Buscot Ward last week in cash.
Claire Lord, sister from Buscot Ward, said: “This is fantastically generous and we are so, so grateful for all the individuals and groups who help us so much in our work to look after the babies in our care.
“To be able to buy a new Vapotherm machine will be of great use to the ward as we don’t have very many and they are expensive to buy. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone for their kind donations at the After Dark club.”
