Winkfield artist Jonathan Greenyer publishes first novel
February 03, 2010
An artist has downed his paintbrush and picked up a pen to write his first novel.
Jonathan Greenyer, 56, from Woodside in Winkfield, has written and published a “cynical thriller” with the unusual title of “A Goldfish in the Ear.”
He first came up with the idea in 1990 and has been jotting down ideas and scribbling notes ever since.
He said: “I have always written.
“I have come up with children’s stories, satirical reviews for magazines and other things for a long time.
“This year I thought it was finally time to do it and wrote a book.
“The book is a sort of diary, but with real characters and a real plot.
“It has been updated along the way – I don’t really think a diary of events from 1990 would work.”
He said as the plot goes on, the characters encounter a number of very realistic, and irritating, situations.
He said: “Over the years I have noted some very funny real-life situations which I have put into the book. There are few little digs aimed at various organisations and institutions in there.”
He is publishing the book through Author House.
He said: “It’s a tricky time for new authors, and publishing companies.
“The publishers are very keen on dead cert sellers, like celebrities or autobiographies.
“So I’ve published it myself.”
He could not resist turning to the paintbrush again however – and produced the book’s striking cover.
Jonathan is asking for feedback through the book’s website and said: “It’s very much set up for a follow-up and I’m hoping people will give me feedback with some of their own ideas on annoying situations.”
The book can be bought through main sellers like Amazon or through www.agoldfishintheear. co.uk or call Mr Greenyer on (01344) 882 702.
